Happy Teachers' Day!!

Today, I feel like writing a very special post to me as today, as never before, I feel so identified with the teachers' role. Some years ago, this was just a future project, which today is closer to being achieved.

Today, 5th October, we celebrate World Teachers' Day!!!

Even if for many people this is just a simple day, for me it is not. In fact, I believe it will not be an ordinary day anymore. I would like to take this opportunity to show how happy and proud I am to have chosen the one that for me is the most beautiful job that exists: educating the human being. As it is usually said... "Without teachers, life wouldn’t have class".

Following this topic and going back in time to one of yesterday’s class, I would like to talk about innovation in education. At first glance, this term can be applied to many areas of teaching, but in my case, and as we learned in class, innovating implies something new and different, it is not a simple change of something that already exists.

I consider education is totally stuck for some years now and students are kind of a direct mirror of that. Some of them have even developed a particular rejection toward learning. We need to stop as nowadays it seems to be something "normal" and it is not, absolutely not! We need to contribute with things that have never been seen before, we need to be innovative in our classes, and this will be the key to get into a new educational stage. I bet on technology without any doubt, as I consider it is an option able to bring back students' motivation. Society must put aside the opposition school vs. technology and everything it implies (social media, games, etc.) in order to move forward. It is especially important those of us who are being trained as future teachers, we must learn about this knowledge so that we will be able to educate our students in the appropriate way. Technology and education should not be contrary, but should complement each other. Obviously, always making certain limits clear.

Digital era counts on many advantages we can make use of for the educational area, such as access to any kind of resources, critical thinking development of students (now they have to decide what to choose and what not on the Internet), online information is always up-to-date, as opposed to written manuals, they favor teamwork (thanks to gamification activities, among others) and allow the development of creativity and digital competence for other areas of their life. I repeat again that everything must be obviously under control and we, as teachers, are the ones who have that responsibility. We need to educate students to make appropriate use of technology to make the most of it.

I wish this change was so easy and fast as it has been described in this post! However, there is still a lot to do and it is about us, as future teachers, who are responsible for making this change a reality!! What about you? Do you dare to play your part?
